Katy is a sixteen year old avid reader and aspiring author and illustrator who has won local awards for her artwork. Just before Christmas, Katy and her mother became homeless. They were evicted from their apartment and have been living in hotel rooms (when they've been lucky) or their car (when they've not been so lucky) since then. And sometimes it happens to have a computer." Both Katy and her mother seem to have very positive outlooks, but it's clear they're in some real trouble.

This is a pair that are actively looking for ways to improve their situation, and just need a little push to help them get there. No, I'm not dead, but I thought you might have suspected I was! A lot has happened in the last nine months on the personal front, but the past month I have been CAUGHT IN THE THROES of writing. I love that feeling... I have two novels just pouring out of me at the same time, and after over a year of not being able to finish anything original, it's like the sky has opened and the sun is shining through! YAY!

Yay! Finally back in action!

Hi everyone! Long time no update. I've had some personal issues going on, and not much to report in the original fic arena.

But now I'm back and proud to report that I've FINALLY finished editing OTHERWORLD, the sequel to THE VEIL, and sent it in for submission. I realize it's not a contract or a release, but after being so unproductive over the past year, I feel accomplished even getting this much done!

There's so much more on the horizon! I've set a goal to finally finish my latest novel, CITY OF NIGHT before NaNo starts November 1.

It's been quite a while, hasn't it! I've been dealing with some health issues (again. How tired am I of being sick? There are no words!), but I'm back to work ONCE AGAIN. Hopefully my remission will last a little longer this time!

Woohoo! Another Sale and Upcoming Appearances!

I just sold another story! You may remember earlier this year I wrote a story called NEPTUNE RISING, the story of sexy incubus Guardian Hart Campbell and his heroine, Kimber Andrews. Well, it's been floating around waiting for me to find it a home... and now it has one! I just sold NEPTUNE RISING to my beloved COBBLESTONE PRESS!!!

It's scheduled for a Valentine's Day release, so I have to play up those themes in the story, which was originally written with the astological aspects emphasized -- hence the "Neptune" part, Neptune being the planet of Pisces, and Kimber, the heroine, is a Pisces. It happened around her birthday in February... now I just have to change it to make it Valentine's Day, as well.

I'm so excited! This has been a GREAT year for my career! Let's hope next year goes as well or better! :)

Barely, thanks to being back in school AND being sick, but I have a tentative release date for the individual release of POSITIVE ENCOUNTER: October 31, 2006. That's right -- be on the lookout for the ebook short story release on Samhain from Lady Aibell Press!

October promises to be a busy month, release wise. Unfortunately, my illness has slowed the progress of IN DARKNESS, WE, so I doubt we'll be seeing that in October, as I'd hoped, but THE VEIL does come out October 27!

I'll keep you updated as more detailed arise, including the release date of the VAMPIROTICA '06 ANTHOLOGY!

Ladies and gentlemen, the first draft of OTHERWORLD is DONE.

Fifty five THOUSAND words, yo! In a little over two weeks. Yeah, baby! *dances*

I'm taking the night off to slack. Well... mostly. I have a proposal due for a new series I'm working on for Freya's Bower, and I need to flesh out the outline for my holiday story, BETTER NOT CRY, which is due next week.

So... not really taking the night off. *G* Plus, I have 55,000 words to type now.

Announcement: there are no real nights off for a busy writer. Which is the only kind of writer to be.

Coming up:
* Outline Dark Fantasy Seminar I'm giving in January
* Type OTHERWORLD, submit
* Outline IN DARKNESS, WE series for editor (a series of 12 HOT SHORTS! To be published in PRINT next year! *dances*)
* BETTER NOT CRY (Due 8/15)
* Final Edits on THE VEIL
* Plot CITY OF NIGHT from outline & finish character sketches
* Edits for POSITIVE ENCOUNTER (once the contract's signed) - to appear in Chippewa's VAMPROTICA '06 ANTHOLOGY! Whee!
* Start Plotting my Entry for ELLORA'S CAVEMEN '07

I'm tired just typing all of that. And just to think--classes start in less than two weeks, and I have a full courseload this semester: Literary Trends & Movements; Shakespeare; American Lit to the Civil War, Creative Non-Fiction, and Myth and Modern Mythmaking.

Plus a "real" job.

You know what I need? A clone. And/or a personal assistant.

Decent productivity, and even better, I'm getting down to the last of it plotwise! Tomorrow's chapter will be the climax, and then there's only three more after that, barring any weird demands from the story or characters.

I have to say, I've been sort of surprised at the direction OTHERWORLD has gone. It's *much* darker than I originally expected it to be. The horror elements are a great deal stronger than in the original, which makes me happy, since that's what dark fantasy is supposed to be about. I'm a little concerned, though, how it will be received by readers. I mean, it's still a romance at the core, and there's plenty of steamy scenes, but it's very much about Harrigan and his insecurities and fears as a man and as a vampire. It's very bloody, and very violent.

Now, I LOVE that stuff, and I know a lot of my readers do too (*waves to Buffy people*), but what will my publisher think?

I guess we'll see before too much longer!

Tentative good news -- it looks like my erotic short vampire story (I say that a lot, don't I? *G*), POSITIVE ENCOUNTER, will be featured in the 2006 VAMPROTICA anthology from Chippewa Publishing! I haven't signed a contract yet, so it's technically not official, but I heard from Chippewa/Lady Aibell's Rebecca Peck, and it looks like this is going to happen! I'm REALLY excited about it. For one thing, I LOVED VAMPROTICA 2005 -- if you haven't checked it out yet, it's DEFINITELY worth a read! Which leads me to the other reason I'm psyched -- it's available in PRINT from like, BOOKSTORES, MAN! *dances*

It's also available in ebook format, for those who prefer it! :)

Speaking of inspiration... I always talk about how I get my ideas from all kinds of strange places. Well, yesterday afternoon, I was watching an old BBC movie called "Flirting," when I got an idea for a pub and gathering place in my upcoming dark fantasy project, CITY OF NIGHT.

Just a five second shot of a building in the movie opened up a whole new avenue of possibility for the story.

So remember -- always keep your imagination open, and you can find bits and pieces of stories anywhere, anytime!

Dun dun-dun DUNNNN! Ladies and gentlemen, the NEW cover for THE VEIL v2.0, coming in October from Cobblestone Press!

Isn't it beautiful? I'm so happy with it -- it portrays the story and the tone of the book PERFECTLY, and I think it's truly compelling. It'll go a long way toward attracting readers who might otherwise have avoided it, thinking it was "just" romance. It IS romance, but it's Dark Fantasy as well.

I have to say, seeing this has gone a LONG way toward inspiring me in my ongoing work on the sequel, OTHERWORLD. I'm about halfway through the first draft now! It's a LOT darker, and a LOT spicier than the original.

A New Home for THE VEIL and another RAVE!

Best news first -- I just signed a contract with Cobblestone Press for a re-release of THE VEIL! It's tentatively scheduled for October, as part of Cobblestone's Octoberfest Celebration. At their request, I did write a closed ending for the new version, but fear not! The second book's plotline has barely been changed by the new ending of THE VEIL. So those of you who read the original version will still get the same conclusion as you would have in the original version of OTHERWORLD.

You might want to check out the steamy new ending of THE VEIL anyway, just for fun. :)

For those of you who haven't yet purchased the original and soon-to-be collector's edition of THE VEIL, it will be available until June 30th. Don't miss it!

Sad news from Inara Press, but a GREAT review!

I just learned my first hard lesson about the publishing industry. The owner of Inara Press has decided to close her doors and releasing us all from our contracts effective July 1. Here is the announcement from their website:

Thursday, June 15th, 2006:
We are saddened to announce that Inara Press is closing its doors at the end of June. We will not be releasing any more titles from this point forward. Please feel free to make any final selections from our current catalog. We encourage you to please download any of the products you purchase to your computer by opening the file from your bookshelf and using the File > Save As feature. On July 1st, 2006 our site will be closed and all accounts and bookshelves will be deleted.
Seron Serials will continue to be released through the end of June. At that time, a complete copy of the full season will be available for download for all serial subscribers.
We appreciate the support our readers, authors and staff have shown over the last few months. Much love and thanks.

The good news is, I believe I have already found a new home for THE VEIL. I can't reveal anything concrete yet, as we are still in negotiations, but it looks good! The one thing I will say is -- I have REWRITTEN the ending. The new release of THE VEIL will be a VERY different book -- making the original a rare collector's edition! Don't miss an opportunity to own both!

If you're interested in reading THE VEIL in its original form, make sure to purchase it NOW. Inara will be releasing all the chapters before they close at the end of June, so at least you won't have to wait the full 12 weeks. Greetings, everyone... if there's actually anyone reading yet. *G* Welcome to yet another place for me to blab about the writing life! Or really, any part of life in general. Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Heather Fowler, I'm an author, student, and bon vivant from UP-up-upstate New York. I'm 36, single, and a big paranormal geek. I love reading, writing, long walks on the beach... just kidding. *G* I like all kinds of sedentary non-activity, although I do try and practice yoga regularly. I'm a big TV and movie geek: anything with vampires in it, I'm there. I'm currently sort of off TV. The only show I've been watching this season with any regularity (that I'll admit to in public. *G*) is "Veronica Mars". I haven't really decided how I feel about it yet, besides resentful of the fact that everybody wants to compare it to Buffy, and HELLO, other than a tiny blonde girl with a smart mouth? NOTHING alike. Did I mention I'm a big TV geek? Anything scifi/fantasy/horror, but my Great Love is Buffy/Angel.

I've recently returned to college to pursue a second bachelor's degree in Writing (my first is in Psychology) and I'm also working to build my writing career. My first book, THE VEIL, will be released in serial format MAY 26 by INARA PRESS. Then I have two short erotic paranormal stories coming in June from Freya's Bower. When ordering information is available for either, I'll post it here. :)
